So in all we have selected 6 teams for finals from amongst 17 teams. Your overwhelming response showed your inclination and passion for problem solving. In future we expect such great participation, infact more. Congratulations to the teams who have qualified the prelims and best of luck for the finals (to be held on 8th May in the AVH). And for those who couldn't crack it through this time, never mind. Who says 'opportunities knock just once'? Well the Maths Society promises to knock till you open the door. So keep up the spirit and give it a shot next time.
We shall have a Sudoku & Mathematical Puzzle solving competition for class 6th on 5th May.
The whole idea behind organising these competitions is to cater to the hopes of those many students who join conventional schooling with great expectations. But to our misfortune, the system pushes us into a very narrow minded approach towards education- we lose that creativity, that excitement & joy that lies in exploring nature- it is a wild forest- full of amazing things which lie before us to be explored. Mathematics, I believe, is that searchlight that shall take you through your hunt in this so called UNIVERSE. We at Maths Lab try to demonstrate how cutting edge technology can be applied in mathematics- powerful softwares like Mathematica & Autograph, loads of programming languages, those awesome graphic claculators, and a lot more. It all culminates in giving you a feel for mathematics. The motive is to make students think out of the box- to make them see the unintutitive marriage between mathematics & seemingly remote fields of knowledge, happen.
Let there be passion & love for discovery & exploration in the young minds.

oye hoye! considering that we left the paper half empty. thanks anyways.
and yeah, the next roound is going to be an oral quiz, right? What sorty of mathematical questions does one answer orally?? It makes NO sense. Unless you are not just sticking to the arithmetic-question-solving maths and are going on to general questions. like a GK quiz. atleast let us know what we're gonna face. Doing math seems pretty easy, but knowing who did it first is equally tricky.
well we shall tell u wat u r 2 face. u may check the blog after a couple of days. i'm sure the questions will make sense to u provided u know the answers. thanks for ur interest/
Oral Maths Quiz... well we won't ask u to prove a ques or solve some really weird ques orally, but yeah we can assure u that it will be all related to Maths. As far as the details are concerned, as Adrish said, We'll post them shortly. But do keep visiting the blog!!
;)

umm...but you still didn't answer my question. For example-When was Aryabhata born? How the hell am I supposed to know that??
Think you would get my point NOW. Answering questions on the history of mathematics is something I don't think many teams will be prepared to face.
Thanks anyway,
I'll keep checking the blog for more updates,
Shayeri
the oral quiz shall not involve questions as crazy as the example you gave. nothin about history. so u need not worry. it shall, in general, be application based.
wow, we did it. do v get 2 c our scores?
well if u guys want we can put up the scores as well as wat u r to face in the finals
ok...thanks for that. AND YES...showing the scores doesn't sound so bad!
please......please please please!!! **begs** show us how we fared and where we stand!!!
Qouting one of my fellow Mat Soc member, "Everyone will get full marks if u put such ques..."
Well, it did turn out to be a bit tricky, as we tried to add all sorts of ques (related to your course and some Application/ IQ based). So if even if u think that u did really well, it doesn't mean that u'll score 100% here!
So don't care so much about the score (I know its marks that matter in CBSE, but it is the rank/percentile that matters everywhere else!)
And yeah, no detailed query on marks (like why did I get this much.. or which ques did i do wrong...) will be entertained.
Scores will be posted soon!
Those who qualified should start preparing for the final round...
;)

congrats to all those who qualified!!...and thanks to the organisers for not disclosing the marks....a saving grace if ever i saw one:D...i am pretty sure that our team got that 21....but ths ok:)....everyone was confined within that small range:D...i think it was the bonus question which was the real clincher......
oh yes...i relly must appreciate the questions...they were really good....It's safe to say that you managed to break away from the usual CBSE rote-type fare:D....
